Should Christians be armed?

Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. Luke 22:36

Did you read the above verse carefully? That’s right, Jesus instructs his followers two things: build up your financial reserves and arm yourself adequately.

Now history doesn’t remember the apostles as financiers and armed guerrillas. But at the same time — Jesus said what he said, right?

Take for instance financial preparedness. Is there anything wrong with being prepared financially? Of course not!
Same thing with being armed adequately. There’s no question about this in my mind on a personal level, when it comes to your family for instance.
But what about church? Should you go armed to church? Should churches have armed security guards at the time of their services?

In case you have some doubts about these matters, read the following records of violent attacks that have occurred in churches. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what’s the right thing to do here. Churches must think of security matters, not only pray for the safety of their members.
This is not to say I don’t believe in God’s protection. I do. But I also know that God has given us heads on our shoulders to think with.

I can speak for myself and tell you that I personally was attacked in my church office years ago by a church member who had mental problems. I ended up with a swollen face for a week but it might have been much worse.

It has been reported that across the world in each nation about 10% of the people have criminal inclinations. This is one of the consequences of the fall of man. The world is what it is and we can change it by holding hands and singing “kumbaya”. We must be responsible fathers, husbands and leaders. Who knows — somebody might be needing to read this, I don’t know. It might even save someone’s life.

Regardless of what your theology, is do yourself a favor and read the following report. Last Sunday’s shooting at this church in California (the first on the list below) should alert every concerned citizen and a Christian to the danger we face in this world. Let’s be prepared in spiritual and natural matters as well.

Now faith is…

Each of us was made with our needs and necessities. Our Creator (for it is incredibly humiliating and disgraceful to support Darwin’s theory when he himself confesses that it was built on mere assumption) has placed deeply in us a basic necessity to believe and we practice believing every day of our lives. We believe the news reporters when they give us the news, we believe our friends when they tell us stories, we believe the Security team that they are going to protect us effectively… We don’t believe the politicians who have already lied to us, we don’t believe in empty promises, we don’t believe in people who have already lied to us… But we continue practicing our faith all the time.

God has made us this way. That’s why we decided to go back to our Maker and see what He has to say about faith in His Holy book, the Bible. We believe in His Word and it brings tremendous life to us, it changes us, it is like a lamp to our feet and guides us in a world where there is so much darkness.

Hebrews 11:1 – Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (MKJ)

We always start from here – we need to assume something without trying to prove it – we assume what God says to be true: God is good, He is light and there is no darness in Him. He loved us so much that He gave His only Son to die on a Cross, redeem us and bring us back to Himself. That’s why we trust Him and He has never let us down.

Romans 10:17 – Then faith is of hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. (MKJ)

God speaks, we listen and faith is born in our hearts. And faith is the power to connect with our Maker, to have a new life and to change the world we live in!

Faith that overcomes the world!
